About The Corner at Whitman Walker
The Corner at Whitman Walker, a new cultural center that focuses on intersectionality and looking to bring culture and socio-political concerns, in particular around issues of health and LGBTQ communities, into play with each other.

Whitman-Walker Health System was formed in 2017 as part of a strategic restructuring of Whitman-Walker Clinic, Inc. dba Whitman- Walker Health (WWH). The community health system’s purpose is to support and advance Whitman-Walker Health through a more diversified and financially sustainable business model. The community health system is comprised of the following corporate entities (jointly referred to as the “Health System”):
1. Whitman-Walker Health System (WWHS)
2. Whitman-Walker Institute (WW Institute)
3. Whitman-Walker Foundation (WW Foundation)
4. Whitman-Walker Health System Real Property Holdings (WWHS Real Property Holdings)
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Liaison/Art Educator will link The Corner at Whitman-Walker and local communities in diverse ways, amongst them through outreach and internal initiatives. The Community Liaison/Art educator will help conceptualize the educational programs The Corner at Whitman-Walker and be responsible for the everyday management of these. The Community Liaison/Art Educator will help with communication and social media. Some flexibility in skills and tasks is required in the face of evolving goals and deliverables as this new institution is being built with the smallest of teams.
Primary Essential Duties
• Link The Corner at Whitman-Walker and local communities in diverse ways, amongst them through Outreach and internal initiatives in coordination with the Executive Director
• Act as a community liaison to The Corner at Whitman-Walker
• Help conceptualize the educational programs of The Corner at Whitman-Walker and run these
• Act as an art educator and mediator to The Corner at Whitman-Walker.
• Supervise docents and volunteers
• Coordinate communications and social media
• Document The Corner at Whitman-Walker’s community activities and educational programs in coordination with The Corner at Whitman-Walker team
• Liaise with staff at Whitman-Walker Foundation and Whitman-Walker Health on The Corner at Whitman-Walker educational issues
• Other duties as assigned
• Some budget responsibilities with specific educational programs and Outreach or internal initiatives, coordinating with Project Manager and with oversight from the Executive Director and the Chief Development Officer
Knowledge, Skills, and Talents Required
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
• Interest in intersecting between the spheres of art, cultural education, health, space and community as well as an ability to mediate these intersections in their complexity.
• Excellent knowledge of diverse DC communities, in particular, LGBTQ communities and communities in Anacostia.
• Advanced educational skills and an understanding of education as a two-way street.
• Excellent social and communication skills, networking talent.
• The ability to manage projects and deadlines independently and maintain simultaneous priorities.
• Strong logistical skills.
• Strong knowledge in contemporary art or interest and ability to learn about it quickly.
Education and Experience Required
3-5 years’ experience in self-organized and/or institutional education, preferably but not exclusively from Washington DC. Experience in self-organized and/or institutional community projects or initiatives, preferably but not exclusively from DC. Applications from persons with diverse professional training and background welcome.
Working conditions for this position are normal for an office environment. Individual may be required to work evenings and / or weekends and organization events.
• Lifting: No more than 20 lbs. and infrequently.
• Movement: Standing and sitting for long periods.
• Visual: Long periods on the computer.
• Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with computer systems where concentration is key to accuracy in data entry. Intermittent periods of engagement with a telephone system to respond to inquiries where concentration is key to task performance.
• Communication: Direct and indirect communication. Written and verbal competency.
