The School of Art at Pratt Institute seeks exceptional applicants for the position of Assistant Dean in the School Art. The selected candidate will report to the Dean of the School of Art.
This position will begin in January 2021. Working closely with the Dean and Department Chairs, the Assistant Dean will help develop and implement an academic strategic plan for the School of Art, in accordance with the School of Art’s mission, vision, and values, and in alignment with Pratt’s overall mission and strategic plan. The Assistant Dean is responsible for informing, developing and overseeing the implementation of guidelines and procedures concerning the School of Art’s curriculum, program review, assessment, academic hiring, and peer review, with input on all aspects of related space planning. The Assistant Dean acts as a resource for the school’s 8 departments (Fine Arts, Photography, Film/Video, Digital Arts, Art and Design Education, Creative Arts Therapy, Arts and Cultural Management/Design Management, and the Associate Degree Programs) while also serving as a liaison to the first-year Foundation program, the other schools at Pratt, and the community beyond the Pratt campus. Qualifications Education: Terminal degree in area of expertise required Experience: At least 5 years of college teaching experience; at least 5 years’ experience as academic administrator in higher education, including supervisory experience; significant experience with curriculum, planning and assessment as well as academic advisement Skills: Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication as well as collaboration skills required; proficiency in MS Office and PowerPoint required; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) preferred; excellent organizational skills Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications Teaching: The option to teach 1 course per academic year in field of expertise Other: Ability to work with a diverse faculty and student body; Current in creative program or research practice Application Instructions Review of applications to begin November 6th and continue until the position is filled.
