Job Description
The Department of Art at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor and Area Head of Visual Foundations. The successful candidate must be able to develop Visual Foundations curriculum and teach both in Visual Foundations and in another area within the department: Graphic Design, Digital Media, Drawing, Painting, Photo/Video, Printmaking, or Sculpture. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate their interest and experience in working with diverse student populations.
Tenure-track faculty will be expected to maintain teaching load; engage in active research/creative practices; contribute to the interdisciplinary BFA and MFA fine arts programs by serving on committees and teaching seminars; and participate in service to both the department and the university. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021.
The Department of Art seeks an individual with strong experience in visual foundations mixing traditional tools with digital applications. The ideal candidate will have an excellent background in teaching and in recent pedagogical advancements in the area. Experience in the latest theory and practice is highly desirable, as is participation in organizations or conferences in the field. The individual would work closely with existing faculty in all areas to assess and develop visual foundations courses that support and connect to the unique and varied curriculum being taught in the Department of Art.
The position of Area Head involves managing facilities and equipment in the classroom space, ordering supplies, and maintaining instructors for the numerous course sections offered each semester and during summer sessions, and building curriculum as needed.
