Assistant Professor, Core, Drawing, and Printmaking Wayne State University
The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts of Wayne State University is seeking qualified candidates for appointment as Assistant Professor, tenure track, in Art (Core, Drawing, and Printmaking) in the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History, full-time, beginning no later than August 19, 2017. This is a tenure-track position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will teach courses in printmaking which may include the four traditional areas of intaglio, lithography, silkscreen, and relief processes, as well as digital processes. The candidate will also teach in Core (foundations), which may include surface, space, and time studio courses, as well as in drawing. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, work on an individual basis with graduate students, conduct a program of creative and/or scholarly work, contribute to the intellectual life of the department, and provide appropriate professional service. A typical teaching load involves five courses per year.
We are seeking an exceptional artist/teacher with experience teaching art at the college level. At minimum, we require an MFA in printmaking or a closely related field and evidence of creative work consistent with the expectations for a tenure track position at a research university. A minimum of three years teaching core, drawing, and printmaking courses at the college level and evidence of teaching effectiveness are required. Evidence of teaching excellence and willingness to mentor undergraduate and graduate students from diverse populations is preferred.
