Job Description
The Department of Art & Art History at Rhodes College invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in Video, Animation & New Media to begin in August of 2018. Rhodes College is especially interested in attracting candidates from historically underrepresented groups and/or those with demonstrated commitment to working with diverse and historically underrepresented populations. Preference will be given to candidates whose creative practices include one or more of the following areas: video and computer animation (video art, motion graphics, special effects and compositing as well as both traditional and 3D animation); imaging (focus on still images including both 2D digital imaging and 3D modeled and rendered images, digital photography, digital painting, collage and hybrid media); production (works may be realized using various printing techniques including large format and experimental alternative printing as well as 3D printing); interactive multimedia (using HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Processing for online and mobile devices as well as installation and interactive physical artworks). The successful candidate will offer introductory-level courses in digital media and help broaden the existing curriculum with more specialized courses. We especially encourage applications from individuals whose interests could connect with disciplines such as Computer Science, Theatre, and Film and Media Studies. The successful candidate must demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching and scholarship at a liberal arts college and will be expected to maintain an active program of studio production and exhibition. Research will be supported by start-up funds and an office. Possibilities for additional research support include summer research funds and travel funds. Teaching responsibilities will include five courses a year. Candidates must have completed all requirements for an MFA in the appropriate areas of concentration by July 2018. Candidates with teaching experience are preferred.
