The VCUarts Department of Painting + Printmaking (arts.vcu.edu/paintingprintmaking/) is seeking an innovative and flexible artist and teacher with a broad intellectual approach to engaging research and practice of contemporary printmedia, underpinned by art historical knowledge of printmaking.
Preferred candidate will have in-depth knowledge of lithography and the ability to connect printmedia in the expanded field. Teaching responsibilities will focus on printmedia – a broad intellectual approach to engaging research and practice of contemporary printmedia, underpinned by art historical knowledge of printmaking. Faculty member will have in-depth knowledge of lithography and the ability to connect printmedia in the expanded field.
This junior-level 9-month tenure-track faculty position will have teaching responsibilities that support the curriculum of the program and could include undergraduate and graduate courses each semester in the faculty member’s area of expertise.
Courses taught will change as demand requires and will be at the discretion of the Chair. The faculty member’s creative research responsibilities will entail growing and maintaining an established research agenda that is consistent with and supports the mission and initiatives of the department, school and university. The faculty member’s research agenda must have clear potential for external funding, as well as potential for scholarship or creative expression that will complement and expand the existing expertise in the department.
The faculty member will serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field. The faculty member could have additional responsibilities which could include academic advising, mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students, coordinating student activities, overseeing undergraduate studies, overseeing a department program and/or lab, and supporting accreditation and curriculum development. The faculty member will be committed to working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment as a faculty member at VCU.
Required Qualifications :
MFA
-Demonstrated experience equivalent to 2 years full time teaching beyond graduate teaching at the university-level.
-Evidence of a strong scholarly/exhibition record that will lead to promotion and tenure at a research institution.
-Evidence of a strong studio practice/portfolio.
-Evidence of effective teaching/strong student work. -Demonstrated knowledge of both current contemporary practices in printmaking as well as traditional methodologies, e.g. lithography, photolithography, monotypes, etching, etc.
-Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. -Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
