Assistant Professor of Studio Art, Middlebury College, Vermont
The Program in Studio Art invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in studio art with a focus on the principles of pictorial structure and metaphorical content starting Fall 2017. Applicants should hold an M.F.A. and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. Teaching responsibilities include one class of Foundations 2-D spatial-thinking each fall and spring term, one fall 300-level Black and White Photography course, one spring 300-level Color Photography course, and advising thesis students of all disciplines. The Program seeks an artist with demonstrated abilities to teach foundational principles of pictorial structure and metaphorical content to liberal arts students as the basis for codified expression and visual-communication. Upper-level classes in photography are to deliver expertise in analog and digital methods in service of sophisticated artistic thinking. Command of Adobe Creative Suite required as well as programs in 3-D modeling and moving image. All classes must bring creative content to students from a broad constituency across the College’s curriculum. The Program in Studio Art is an active, cross-disciplinary, material-based teaching curriculum and welcomes artists from all areas of visual art able to participate within an evolving liberal arts environment. Demonstrated knowledge of processes described required as well as, but not limited to, corollary interest in installation, painting, video, audio, performance, hybrid, and emerging art forms.
