Eligibility: This is an international call for artwork related to, comprised of, or inspired by books. We are looking for work of any medium (book arts, sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, digital media) that is inspired by books. The show is sponsored in tandem with Millsaps College’s Lewis Art Gallery and Purple Word, a non-profit art center in Jackson, Mississippi’s Midtown neighborhood. The accepted artwork will be installed in the Lewis Art Gallery. You must be 18 years old to apply.
Best of Show: The Best in Show recipient will be awarded a 2 day Artist-in-Residency at Purple Word. We will provide housing and travel costs to Jackson, MS. The chosen artist is invited to create new work in addition to giving a public artist talk about their practice and overall body of work.
Juror: Nicole Pietrantoni’s artwork explores the complex relationship between human beings and nature via installations, artists’ books, and works on paper. She is the recipient of numerous artist residencies and awards including a Fulbright to Iceland, a Leifur Eiríksson Foundation Grant, an Artist Trust Fellowship, the Larry Sommers Printmaking Fellowship, and the Manifest Prize. Her work has been in over 75 national and international exhibitions and is in collections including the University of California, Santa Barbara; University of Iowa Museum of Art; Zayed University, United Arab Emirates; and the Proyecto Ace Print Collection in Buenos Aires. Nicole received her MFA and MA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa and her BS in Human and Organizational Development and Art History from Vanderbilt University.
