The Cooper Union Artist Residency for professional artists, administered by the Summer Art Intensive Program, provides spacious, sky-lit professional studios in the Painting and Drawing Department, located on the 6th floor of the historic Cooper Union Foundation Building. Studio access is 7 days a week from 8am – 10pm, June 28th through July 31st.
The Cooper Union Artist Residency culminates with an exhibition honoring the residents’ work, immediately following the residency and held in conjunction with the pre-college Summer Art Intensive program. The exhibition opening is on August 1st. The artists in residence are expected to present their work to the Summer Art Intensive students and faculty at an event in the Rose Auditorium on the afternoon of August 1st. Throughout the residency, AIRs are welcome to participate in guest lectures, critiques, and other events with with Summer Art Intensive program.
Applications must be submitted online through Submittable and must include a short project proposal, 10 jpegs of images and a cv. Individual websites will not be considered in place of these materials. All applications must be received by February 15 at 11:59pm. Notification will take place March 1st.
Please note, we are unable to provide housing, material, or cash stipends. AIR access is limited to the Cooper Union Drawing & Painting department.
