Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college. The Department of Art and Art History seeks to provide an historical, critical and practice-based knowledge of visual culture within a liberal arts context. We are currently seeking a motivated, well-organized and creative individual to be part of our Department.
Responsibilities: The Studio Art Technical Assistant is an integral component to Grinnell College’s Studio Art Major and helps fulfill the College’s mandate to educate its students “for the different professions and for the honorable discharge of the duties of life.” The Studio Art Technical Assistant is a non-teaching staff position with the primary responsibility to support faculty curriculum and pedagogy, and to provide technical and safety oversight for students. While the Studio Art Technical Assistant is responsible for wide ranging duties, studio art faculty members work together to help manage a safe and effective environment. Specific responsibilities include monitoring studio facilities, maintaining departmental equipment, ordering/stocking materials, accounting (studio art budgeting), managing part-time student workers, and Smith Gallery oversight. In addition to a range of digital and analog fabrication skills (wood/metal/etc…), the Studio Art Technical Assistant needs to be an effective communicator and highly organized.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required and studio art background is essential. Masters of Art (MA) or Masters of Fine Art (MFA) preferred. Must have excellent organizational, communication, customer service and computer skills.
