Westmoreland County Community College invites applications for a full-time temporary position in the Associate of Fine Arts program. The Associate of Fine Arts program at Westmoreland is designed as a transfer program that covers the first two years of Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Currently our program manages approximately 50-60 students who declares a focus in either Visual Arts Studio option or the Art Therapy option. In addition they may also choose to complete certificates in Art Business or Art Technology. The vision of the program is to develop conceptual, problem-solving skills and to encourage and promote interdisciplinary work with the School of Technology and Workforce Development. The primary function of a faculty member of the college is to provide quality instruction for the students by working with them in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities to help them develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity. Responsibilities include shop training and management experience, having a dynamic skill set in 2D or 3D foundation classes, this position requires a commitment to interdisciplinary connections, to fostering a sense of community with colleagues and students, and willingness to engage part-time faculty to grow and sustain the program. Management of the studio labs includes oversight, repair, maintenance and replacement of studio equipment; the development and implementation of safety protocols for students; and training and managing student work-study assistants. Must be willing to teach utilizing alternate modes of delivery.
This position requires a Master of Fine Arts degree; strong art foundation skills; experience in online and interdiciplinary teaching desirable; knowlege of a variety of machinery, equipment, and technology in the fine art disciplines including printmaking and woodshop and a willingness to learn new equipment and processes as needed; ability to perform demanding physical activity and participate in the safe handling of studio materials; ability to train and supervise others in techniques and safe use of equipment; ability to prioritze safety and instructional needs in consultation with area faculty; Strong organization and communication skills are necessary as well as the abiltiy to work effectively with others within the context of the Program, Divison, College and campus environment; College-level teaching experience; requires PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check Clearance and FBI Federal Criminal History Record Clearance at employee’s expense. To qualify for this position, he applicant’s previous work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.
