Manhattan Graphics Center offers 11 scholarships each year for artists who want to participate at the printmaking studio but can’t afford the fees. Any artist who has not previously worked at MGC (i.e. taken a class, taught a class, or purchased open workshop time) is eligible to apply; printmaking experience is not required. Please see further eligibility requirements below.
NOVEMBER 15TH, 2017 – DEADLINE FOR SPRING 2018 TERM
A scholarship consists of
tuition waiver for class
unlimited open workshop hours
$125 materials stipend
MGC membership for 1 year
The MGC scholarship program does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of age, race, sex, religion, marital status, or national origin.
MGC scholarships are intended for artists at the beginning of their careers, though mid-career artists may also apply. Applicants’ financial need is also considered when awarding scholarships.
Scholarships are awarded for the duration of one term or 15 weeks. During that time, recipients have unlimited access to the studio during our hours of operation, as long as a class is not taking place in the area in which you wish to work. Scheduled classes always take priority in the studio. Please review the calendar to see when classes are running. Scholarship recipients will also be able to choose between taking 1 long course (our semester-long classes in etching, lithography, silkscreen, and Japanese woodblock) or 2 short classes (which change each term). Scholarship recipients will receive storage space and will be reimbursed for supplies up to $125. Receipts must be submitted to receive the stipend. Scholarship recipients will also receive a membership to MGC, which is good for 1 year.
Include the following in your application:
6 digital images in jpeg format, no more than 1000 pixels in any dimension.
Title, dimensions, media, date and contact information.
A copy of your most recent IRS tax return (or a copy of the tax return on which you are listed as a dependent).
A statement of why you wish to work at MGC.
Tell us how you found out about this scholarship opportunity.
Finalists will be invited for interviews. In addition, we invite you to visit the studio at your convenience.
