The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, LBI, New Jersey
“Works on Paper” 2017 is the 19th Annual National Juried Competition and Exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences, Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Works on Paper can include but is not limited to Drawing, Painting on Paper, hand pulled Prints, Photographic Prints, Digital Works on Paper, and Paper constructions that can be wall hung.
The Juror is Jane Panetta, Associate Curator, the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. Three cash Prizes and three Honorable Mentions will be awarded by the Juror at the opening reception.
The competition and exhibition is open to emerging as well as established artists working in the continental US.

JUROR:
Jane Panetta, Associate Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
Ms. Panetta joined the Whitney Museum of Art’s curatorial department in 2010 and was most recently promoted to Associate Curator in 2015. She recently curated Mirror Cells (2016) with Christopher Y. Lew. She served on the curatorial team for the outstanding inaugural collection display for the Whitney Museum’s new building which opened in the Spring of 2015; the exhibition titled “America is Hard to See”. Panetta also co-curated Signs and Symbols (2012) and worked closely on Robert Irwin, Scrim Veil – Black Rectangle – Natural Light (2013). Prior to joining the Whitney, Panetta spent five years in MoMA’s Painting and Sculpture Department, where she worked closely on the exhibitions James Ensor (2009) and Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years (2007).
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
The 19th annual exhibition, National Juried Competition “Works on Paper” 2017 at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences welcomes entries of original work, created within the last two years, which explore the varied media which utilize Paper. The Competition and Exhibition is open to artists in continental USA only. Works on Paper can include, but are not limited to: drawing, painting on paper, hand-pulled prints, photographic prints, digital pieces displayed as prints, and paper constructions which may be wall hung.
AWARDS:
Cash Awards will be announced at the reception $500 first prize, $250 second prize, $100 third prize; and three honorable mentions.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Artists 18 years and older, residing in the continental USA, are eligible.
Works on Paper can include, but are not limited to: drawing, painting on paper, hand-pulled prints, photography, digital pieces displayed as prints, photographic prints, and paper construction that are wall hung. Entries must have been created within the last two years and not been previously shown at LBIF.
Two dimensional works should not exceed 60 inches in width and 72 inches in height, and not exceed 15 lbs. Work may not project in the third dimension beyond 18 inches. Larger size work may be considered if the weight does not exceed 15 lbs, and artist provides return postage. Please do not submit work that has a retail value over $10,000.
Submitted work must be available for the duration of the exhibition. ALL WORKS MUST BE FOR SALE. The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences will retain a 40% commission of the purchase price on all works sold during the exhibition.
Work submitted must be suitably framed, firmly wired, prepared for hanging, and professionally presented. No sawtooth hangers; no sandwich frames. All paper must be displayed framed and protected under acrylic (Plexiglass). 3-D work will be considered, but should be wall mounted, or able to be displayed on a 10” deep wall mounted shelf. Please do notsubmit three dimensional work in the round pedestal pieces.
Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences reserves the right to exclude from the exhibition any works that do not arrive in sturdy condition, or are deemed too fragile to be successfully exhibited. Work that has not been suitably prepared will be hung at LBIF’s discretion.
Please only submit work that will be available at the time of the exhibition and will remain for its entirety. No accepted entry may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition. No pricing changes will be allowed after acceptance. Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. Entries must not have been previously exhibited at LBIF. If the work does not fully reflect what is represented in the submitted images, Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences reserves the right to exclude it from the exhibition.

Please note: Artists are not required to attend the reception. Artists that receive an award and do not in attend the reception will receive their check by mail.
