Shop Technician & Instructor, University of Northern Iowa
Establishes and oversees a safe and orderly shop environment in the sculpture, ceramics and printmaking studios; maintains tools and equipment as necessary; assists faculty in maintaining tools and equipment; supervises, trains and coordinates schedules of student lab monitors for 3D studios; addresses safety issues throughout the Art building; and teaches up to two courses in the Art department per academic year.
Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art required.
Strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated expertise in 3D artwork; an understanding of the safe and proper utilization of well-equipped diverse sculpture, printmaking and ceramics labs and the materials, tools and equipment used therein;
strong organizational skills; and ability to collaborate with others required.
Occasional travel for acquisition of materials and equipment and for research will be necessary.
Demonstrated skills and knowledge of traditional and contemporary art making practices;
university-level teaching experience in art;
demonstrated proficiency in digital technologies such as CAD, 3D modeling, CNC Laser, and similar technologies; and
experience in public art and large-scale sculpture fabrication preferred.
