Tiger Strikes Asteroid is a network of artist-run spaces with locations in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles and Greenville. Each space is independently operated and focuses on presenting a varied program of emerging and mid-career artists. Our goal is to bring people together, expand connections and build community through artist-initiated exhibitions, projects, and curatorial opportunities.
WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
We find ourselves in a time that tasks us to re-imagine our established rituals and relationship to “work.” New parameters on where and how we can be physically have demanded rapid adaptation from artists. We are curious about where (and how) you have ended up, within your work and within your work-space. This year, TSA Philadelphia’s Open Call is multidimensional, extending beyond an in-person exhibition into the realm of digital and print. We offer a platform to share your work not only as an object, but as an extension of your physical space and state of mind. We are interested in the flux of your practice within this ever-changing reality, and how it has manifested in your studio.
Ten selected artists will have their artwork included in a group exhibition at TSA Philadelphia, an online exhibition on our website, featured on our social media, and a mailable printed periodical. Selected artists will be asked to document — a video, a recording, an audio clip, a piece of writing — the site or situation of their practice. Whether this is a formal studio space you have been working in for years, or if the last year has bumped you into the kitchen to make your art, we want to celebrate your perseverance. This is an opportunity to invite us into your process in whatever way you feel appropriate.
