The Department of Visual Art and Design (DOVAD) at Weber State University seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor for a one year appointment that is renewable at the sole discretion of the University for up to 3 years. Ideal candidates will maintain an active, forward thinking studio practice, take advantage of DOVAD’s well-appointed facilities, and work with undergraduate students at all levels in a flexible range of courses. Visiting faculty are eligible for research and professional development grants at the college and university level as well as educational programs through the Teaching and Learning Forum. This is an excellent position for artists interested in gaining academic experience in a supportive, collaborative context. The appointment begins July 1, 2018.

The successful applicant will address contemporary processes of art-making and experimental practices (including both conventional media and emergent technologies).They will be conversant with contemporary issues and theories of art. Teaching assignments will be informed by teaching competencies and could include: digital and interactive technologies, two-dimensional media, painting, socially-engaged/high-impact practices, and trans-disciplinary approaches. The visiting faculty member will enrich our program while contributing to a national and international exchange of ideas. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an active exhibition record or comparable achievements in their area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree in Visual Arts or comparable professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the college level preferred. Ideal candidates will have expertise in some combination of the following: digital and interactive technologies; two-dimensional media; painting; socially-engaged practices; trans-disciplinary approaches.
