Visual Art Center Studio Manager and Technician Ringling College of Art and Design
The Visual Art Center Studio Manager and Technician oversees the day-to-day operations of the new Richard & Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center designed and built to accommodate hands-on fabrication and art-making with its facilities for glass (hot shop and cold shop), woodworking, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and digital fabrication.
The VAC Studio Manager and Technician is responsible for the maintenance, safe operation and oversight of the 3D shop areas and their daily operation as well as the oversight of studio and technical support for 3D areas, such as: hot glass, woodshop and 3D fabrication space in the new Visual Art Center (VAC) classroom building and serves as a technical consultant to faculty and students, providing technical assistance or training as needed.
The VAC Studio Manager is responsible for the management of a safe and accessible learning environment for students and faculty in the VAC 3D spaces which also includes leadership, instruction and workshops for the hot glass facility. The VAC Studio Manager creates an annual budget tailored to the evolving curriculum and use of the VAC 3D areas; oversees categorizing and tracking inventory; purchases a wide variety of materials to maintain VAC hot glass, wood and 3D fabrication space; and supervises area studio technicians and student workers.
The successful candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how art studios function in an academic setting with the ability to interact well with a wide variety of stakeholders including administrators, faculty, staff, students and other college partners; an in-depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA laws and regulations with the ability to apply them; hands-on expertise in working hot glass as well as cold glass work; and hands-on knowledge in woodworking techniques and woodshop operations.
This position involves lifting up to 50 pounds daily; up to 20 pounds frequently; and up to 10 pounds on a regular basis to move objects and perform tasks. Physically able to perform routine stooping, bending, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping constantly.
