From commercial reproduction applications to hand-drawn graphics and original fine art, photographic printing plates have been an integral part of printmaking for over 100 years. For artists, these possibilities open wide vistas of image possibilities, either as stand-alone imagery or in combination with hand-drawn elements. Treating Photo-Litho plates as a hybrid between traditional aluminum plates…
I will demonstrate how to cast handmade abaca paper onto letters created on a CNC router. The viewer will select letters to spell a word of their choice, and cast handmade abaca onto their letters. Then they will come back later that day (or the next day) to pick up their word. Meanwhile, the words will be on display among other samples.
Participants will gain an understanding of the process of designing, building, and using a well-crafted, aesthetically pleasing DIY camera. Examples of the various phases of construction will be displayed. The demonstration will focus on the fundamental considerations of design, including both optimal function as well as aesthetic value of the camera as tool and as an object. Instruction will be given…

A 1.5-2 hour demonstration of the my sound based exposure system and the tools used to create the images.
Using photocopies or laser prints as a matrix is a cheap, fast and effective means of printing images lithographically without the need for litho stones, aluminum plates, solvents, acid or even a press. This demonstration details a method that is excellent for creating lush and layered monoprints, as well as a quick way to transfer images to canvas, wood, or even etching plates. What’s more, images…

Building a collection of type is a costly endeavor. The scarcity, rarity, and the necessity for multiple typefaces in multiple sizes has historically created an economic barrier of entry to establishing or enriching a letterpress printmaking studio.
These hardships can be overcome with the aid of modern mold making materials. In this demonstration you will learn how to construct a silicone mold…
This low-tech workshop will start with a short demo of basic crochet technique, including slip knot, single crochet, and double crochet. Every instructor and printshop manager has their own unique policies and procedures for how things must be done in their shop, procedures that range wildly but often have regional commonality.
This exhibit will consist of specific signage from printmakers in print shops from many countries in the language of the shop. This exhibition will promote community and history of travel for many artists.

In this call we will explore the political landscape of the female anatomy. Woman’s bodies are systematically regulated under government regimes all around the world. The colonization of female bodies, results in a women’s gift of procreation being commodified and used as reproductive systems to benefit the governing state.
Thinking nationally and globally, the female body suffers both from over…

Mestizaje is about the unique experience of being at the intersection of cultures. This is an outgrowth of Gloria E. Anzaldua’s writings on mestiza consciousness and culture. Often the mestiza can feel that they belong without fully belonging, embracing who they are while trying to balance who they are expected to be. Code-switching, defiance of false binaries, identity politics and internalized racism,…
“Paper Boats” is a 3D installation of prints that interpret the theme of water.
Water has long been an exciting subject for printmakers to interpret and there are many thematic designs that contemporary artists have incorporated into their work. The fragility of the paper boats is significant as well in context to the island identity, one noted for resourcefulness and for respect of the water that…

Impress ideas. Print propaganda. Stamp solidarity. In this portfolio edition of 24, each participant will adopt one of 22 Puerto Rican ports to create a printed flotilla, armed with cultural ammunition. Expression is couched in Boriken’s rich history of cultural exchange and its role in the concepts of the American melting pot and global connectivity. Consider characteristics and histories of both…

Abstract:
Puerto Rico’s long history of natural and imposed devastation, has shaped its geography and impressive culture of resilience. Thinking about the “Island as Vessel” that the world descended on, and methodologies of making relating to cultural or geographic histories, this land of Biorken (land of gold and great lords) suggests many connexions through metaphor to the processes, histories…

This exchange provides an opportunity to foster a dialogue and cultural exchange with an emphasis on the interconnectedness of narratives. These narratives…
