SGCI 2024 PROVIDENCE:
VERIFIED BY PROOF
“Verified by Proof ” is taken from the broadside This is a Printing Office, written by Beatrice Warde in 1932. In a high-speed digital age, the phrase gains importance and embraces the meticulous nature of the hand-pulled print. The Verified by Proof steering committee seeks proposals that engage the message of This is a Printing Office—establishing truth, validation through proof/proofing, and the power of the press—and invites you all to celebrate print and its important role in countering the turbulent culture that we all currently face.
Providence is a city that has historically been a refuge for dissidents and a stronghold in the battle for individual freedoms. It is a city where print is celebrated in all its forms, from conceptual art to communication design. Printmaking often intersects with other media in Providence’s rich artistic community, which is host to a variety of creative spaces ranging from traditional academic settings to community shops and maker/DIY spaces. We encourage proposals that embrace this cross pollination and celebrate the broad scope of printmaking, graphic media, and independent publishing.

ROUND 1 CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
–Will resume in 2023–
Lead a panel, themed portfolio, demonstration, inkubator, pop-up exhibition, or special event
The Round 1 Call for Participation is for members who are interested in leading an event, such as a panel, themed portfolio, demonstration, pop-up exhibition, etc. To present as broad and diverse a program as possible, we welcome submissions from emerging artists, students, professionals, and independent artists.
This year’s theme is Verified by Proof; please use the forms below to submit your files to the Steering Committee’s jury. Find out more about leading an event here.
PARTICIPATION POLICY
Membership: You do not need to be a member of SGCI to submit a proposal, but if accepted, you must become a member. All event participants must be an active member of SGCI to participate in any event, including themed portfolios, even if they are not attending that year’s conference. Participants will receive an official letter of participation for their records.
Registration: All participants must register for the conference in some capacity, with exceptions made for artists only exhibiting at the conference (i.e., themed portfolio artists, special event artists).
Please note: there will not be waivers for individuals presenting in any of our events. We are doing everything we can to keep registration fees as low as possible for all of our members and encouraging all of our conference attendees to embrace the spirit of volunteerism and help our community present the best SGCI conference yet.
